Snap-8

Snap-8
SNAP-8, commonly associated with Acetyl Octapeptide-3, is a synthetic octapeptide designed to mimic a SNAP-25-derived sequence involved in SNARE complex assembly. SNAP-25 is a key component of the SNARE complex, which is involved in synaptic vesicle fusion and neurotransmitter release. SNAP-8 was developed as an extended analogue of Argireline, also known as Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, to investigate modulation of SNARE complex assembly and peptide-mediated regulation of neurotransmitter-release mechanisms in cosmetic and dermatological research models.

Experimental studies have examined SNAP-8’s ability to compete with endogenous SNAP-25 during SNARE complex assembly, with the aim of modulating acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction. This mechanism has generated interest in laboratory investigations of vesicle fusion, exocytosis, protein-protein interactions, and localized neuromuscular communication.
Current research continues to investigate SNAP-8’s molecular interactions with components of the SNARE complex, its structure-function relationships, and its effects on vesicular transport mechanisms in experimental systems.
