Oxytocin Acetate

Oxytocin Acetate
Oxytocin Acetate is the acetate salt of oxytocin, a cyclic nonapeptide composed of nine amino acids with a single disulphide bond between Cys1 and Cys6. It is among the most extensively studied peptides, functioning as both a hypothalamic hormone involved in uterine contractions and milk ejection, and a central neuromodulator that influences social bonding, trust, and affiliative behaviours.

Oxytocin Acetate is the acetate salt of oxytocin. As one of the most extensively studied neuropeptides in neuroendocrine research, oxytocin primarily signals through the oxytocin receptor (OXTR), a Class A G protein-coupled receptor that predominantly couples to the Gq/11 pathway.
Because oxytocin can also activate vasopressin receptor subtypes, particularly V1a and, to a lesser extent, V1b and V2, it is used in receptor pharmacology to investigate ligand selectivity and signalling within the neurohypophysial peptide family. In laboratory studies, oxytocin is used to examine smooth muscle contractility, calcium-dependent secretory signalling, and central neuromodulatory pathways.
