Dermorphin is a naturally occurring opioid peptide originally isolated from the skin secretions of South American frogs in the genus Phyllomedusa, including Phyllomedusa sauvagei. It is a heptapeptide (seven amino acids) that exhibits very high affinity for μ-opioid receptors in the central nervous system and produces strong analgesic effects in experimental settings. It is significantly more potent than morphine in animal studies.
